Beach, Memorial Day

A view of the beach, over an Ocean Kayak, looking south early in day Memorial Day, before the beach got busy.

An oil lamp in service during the Lavallette power outage. A good reason to sit out on the deck and watch the stars come out.

Green Side Up

The weather has been extremely dry for this time of year, making it all the more important to water every day thoroughly. Use a soaker hose for best results, and water before the sun is high. The morning is better because it allows the foliage to dry, helping to prevent fungus problems.

Weird berries

Some strange fruit type deals off of a tree near the lake cottage. Any ideas? They're hollow, with fuzzy spikes aimed towards the center.

A wild rose bloom at the beach.

Wild rose

Roses and a yucca

Wild roses, and a yucca defying the heat and dry spell.

Junipers surrounding the yuccas and roses. A very low maintenance planting. Junipers

Pot of herbs

A pot of dill and cilantro, close to the grilling and smoking area. A handful of this and some olive oil will spruce up anything on the grill.

This issue: A brief walking tour of the east side of Providence Rhode Island.

Turret House

A nice Victorian, with a great turret. Haven't you always wanted a turret?

Even this driveway is loaded with details. It would almost be a shame to cover it by parking here.

Great Driveway

Door

Now this is a door! Whoever cut the mail slot should get a beating.

The same guy that cut the mail slot in the door must have put up the fire escape. I wouldn't want to paint the trim, but I wouldn't mind sitting on the porch.

Porch

Favorite House

This is one of my favorite houses. A harmonious blend of rich architectural detail, and one heck of a nice house.

The addition is beautiful, but cuts off the circular drive past this formal covered entrance.

Entrance

New Victorian

A newly refurbished Victorian with copper details on the turret roofs and close to twenty different colors in the walls and trim..

Being a fan of the Deco style, I was happy to find the Eldorado Hotel on my walk. This is about as deco as you can get, with plenty of bronze castings, black marble panels and sensuous cast concrete curves everywhere..
